Living in South Davis County…Arella Pizzeria…

We wanted to continue with showcasing some of the great restaurants we enjoy right here in our own backyard.  We are highlighting Arella Pizzeria, it is located in West Bountiful.  Don’t let the pizzeria part of the title fool you, they have great pasta and salads as well.  The cheesy garlic bread appetizer is exceptional!   You can choose from one of the house specialities or make your own.  My nephew loves the pink sauce pizzas!  The pizza’s are cooked in a wood fired brick oven, which makes them even more delicious!

It is a casual, clean atmosphere that is friendly for families and at the same time intimate enough for a casual evening with that special someone, in my case, Darcy!  For those unfamiliar with this wonderful restaurant, it is right off of Interstate 15 just North of Lowe’s in West Bountiful.  The wait staff is also wonderful, they are very helpful with the menu items and very friendly. It is another restaurant that we would recommend!

Living in South Davis County…Lorena’s

Continuing  in our effort to showcase what is available right here in our neighborhoods in South Davis County, we want to continue with this series of great local Restaurants.  The restaurant I am highlighting in this post is Lorena’s Mexican Restaurant.  It is located in Woods Cross.  It is one of those restaurants that I have been enjoying for nearly twenty years.  I have been eating there since it became Lorena’s after being La Frontera.

I will admit that Darcy and I are pretty particular when it comes to Mexican cuisine.  I am also much more partial to Lorena’s than Darcy is.  She favors much more of the California style Mexican food.  I don’t pretend to be a food cuisine expert.  I couldn’t tell what type of Mexican food Lorena’s serves, other than to say that I really like it.  They have the best tortillas that I have found!  I am partial to the Mexican Steak, but the rest of the food is also very good.  It is also on the spicy side, if you don’t like things picante, Lorena’s may not be your cup of tea, so to speak.

Lorena’s is reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly.  It is near the interchange with Interstate 15, so there is good freeway access.

Mandarin…Living in South Davis County….

Continuing with the idea of highlighting some of the great places to eat or things to do in South Davis County, I am going to write about one of the premiere Chinese Restaurants in the State, The Mandarin.  It is truly a great dining experience!

I am not really sure if this restaurant is simply Mandarin or if is called The Mandarin, but for years it has been referred to as The Mandarin.  The Mandarin is located in Bountiful.  It is a little difficult to find in that there are no other restaurants near it.  It offers, as the name implies, Chinese cuisine.  This is a popular if somewhat upscale restaurant. I don’t remember the first time I ate there, it was several years ago.  If anything, age has improved it!

The Mandarin is an award winning restaurant, in fact Travel and Leisure Magazine named it one of the 25 best Chinese restaurants in the United States.  When we went a few weeks back it was a normal Thursday night and the place was packed!  So call ahead for reservations, especially on the weekends!  The food was fantastic!  If you are a fan of fried rice, ask for the house rice.  It could be a meal, it is that good!

Darcy and I were happy with the portion sizes as we had left overs for lunch the next day.  This is a little upscale, but it does set its self apart from the other very good Chinese restaurants that we have.  I have to brag a little, as a fan of Chinese Food, I am really spoiled here in the South Davis County area, we have several wonderful Chinese Restaurants.

The get an idea of the wonderful experience at The Madarin, here is their web site: http://mandarinutah.com/

A Taste of India…Living in South Davis County….

In the past I have written about some of the fun places to eat or things to do in Southern Utah.  I thought that I would start that up again here in Northern Utah, specifically in South Davis County.  A couple of weeks ago Darcy and I had the opportunity to eat at a local restaurant chain, A Taste of India.  I or rather we, try to limit these types of posts to small restaurants or local chains that aren’t familiar to everyone.  One of the reasons for theses posts, is to show people who are looking to relocate to South Davis County, just what this wonderful community has to offer.  To begin this post,  I will admit I know next to nothing about Indian cuisine.  I have heard of chicken curry, so I went with that.  Darcy went with chicken coconut korma.  I went with the medium spice, and boy was I glad that I didn’t go for the really spicy one!  The food was unbelievable!

You have the option of mild, medium or spicy.  I like spicy food, especially when it comes to things like Mexican food.  I mentioned earlier that I am really glad that I only went with the medium spice!  The chicken coconut korma was also delicious, the food is served family style, so Darcy and I were able to eat some of both dishes, the rice which came with the food was also very good and plentiful.  The Naan was out of this world, if I would have known how good it was going in, I would have just filled up on that.  I say that meaning no disrespect to the other dishes, they were excellent, the naan was just that good!

We were able to eat to our fill, and still had enough leftovers for both of us to eat lunch a day or so later.  The atmosphere was great, and the wait staff was very helpful in offering suggestions.  It is a place that I would gladly recommend if you are in the area.

To see what dishes they offer and all location sites, here is their web site: http://www.tasteofindiautah.com

Have a great time if you go!!

Sold Statistics in Woods Cross for the Past 30 Days…

In the past 30 days there have been 10 homes sell in Woods Cross.  This number is down from the previous 30 days total of 18 homes selling.  The median price of homes selling in the past 30 days is also a little lower than it had been in the previous 30 days.  The good news is that the average sold price is up just over $4000.  The median days on market also stayed the same.

To put some actual numbers to these statements the lowest priced home to sell in the last 30 days was $136,000.  The highest priced home to sell in the last 30 days was $420,000.  The median priced home that sold in the past 30 days was $224,950.  The average price of the homes that sold was $235,840.  The median days on market was 41 days.

These are some interesting numbers, the do say one thing.  If you’re looking to buy or sell Real Estate in Woods Cross, give Darcy or myself a call.  We would love to earn your business!

Home Sales in Bountiful for the Past Thirty Days……

It has been a while since I have done a market statistic post.  Today, I am going to write one about Bountiful.  The past 30 days have been very good ones in the Real Estate Market.  There were 57 homes sell in the past 30 days.  This number is up from the 27 that sold in the 30 days previous.

Another really nice statistic is that not only did more than twice as many homes sell, they sold for an average of nearly $9,700 more than they sold in the previous 30 days.  The highest priced home to sell was on at $2,495,000.  That is a nice sell!  Not only were more home selling at higher average prices, the median days on market dropped from 20 days to 12 days!

Just to give out some more information, the lowest priced home to sell in the past 30 days was $179,000.  The Median Price of homes that sold was $269,000 and the average price for homes that sold was $367,158.  The statistic that was really surprising was how quickly these homes went under contract with a median of 12 days!

These are some nice numbers for the Real Estate Market in Bountiful!  Things seem to be moving fairly quickly, so if you or someone you know is looking to buy or sell Real Estate in Bountiful, give Darcy or myself a call.  We would love to earn your business!!

Bountiful Handcart Days 2013….

I know that is still a week away, but now is a good time to get ready for next week’s festivities in Bountiful.  Handcart Days is a local celebration commemorating the Mormon Pioneer’s entry into the Salt Lake Valley.  Some may remember that a large part of the Mormon immigrants didn’t have the money to outfit a wagon and a team to cross the Great Plains.  Brigham Young devised a plan to have a wagon made to be pulled by the individuals who were crossing the plains.

The Design was pretty simple, a wagon type box with a handle protruding out of the front of the wagon, the person pushing the wagon would stand in front of the wagon and grasp the handle and push the wagon while walking across the Great Plains.  This isn’t what this post is about, rather the fun activities in store!

It all begins with the 62nd Annual Handcart Parade.  This begins July 23rd at 6 PM.  The Parade will go on for almost 2 miles down Main Street.  It begins at 1500 South Main and goes to 400 North, ending at the city park at 400 North.  There will be floats, bands, horses, well it will have the standard parade events.

There will be fun and games at the city park at 400 North both Tuesday Night and Wednesday during the day.  There will also be bus tours available for some 35 of the historic sites in the Bountiful area.  For those who like to run, on Wednesday morning there will be a 1K, 5K and a half Marathon.  If you wish to participate in these you will need to register for them.

What would any celebration like this be without fireworks?  In my opinion, it would be pretty dull.  The Fireworks will take place on Tuesday Night at dusk.  They will be shot from the Mueller Park Junior High School at dusk which is about 9:45 PM.  There will be something for everyone, so come out and have a great time!

Live Happy…Let Things Go….

The next trait in the list of traits of happy people is don’t sweat the small stuff.  I have really enjoyed thinking at writing about the list of the traits that happy people have.  This is really one of the most difficult for me to not do.  We are in an industry and most of us were raised with the axiom if you take care of the little things, the rest will take care of its self.  I don’t believe that this trait means that we shouldn’t continue taking care of the little things, those little things do add up and make the big things possible.

Rather, I believe that this trait is talking about the trivial things.  The things that we can’t control or fix.  Sometimes these “little things” are actually quite large.  We can’t control how or what another person thinks about us, we can make a good impression, we can do all the right things and may encounter someone who is having a bad day or whatever.  We can not control another’s thoughts nor actions, so why worry about.  I do believe it is ok to take stock of the encounter and if we need to, make changes.  What we shouldn’t do is dwell on these sort of things.

I believe that I just like everyone else in the World is going to make mistakes, it is human nature.  Mistakes are stepping stones, something to learn from improve upon, then move on.  We get ourselves in trouble when we dwell on them.  I don’t know how many times I have run across a former classmate, recognized them, then immediately thought of something that I may have said to them or done to them that they may have had reason to be offended over.  What I am finding out is that a lot of years have gone by (a lot more than I am going to admit to) and honestly, they either don’t remember what I have thought of, or it doesn’t matter!  Most of them are just happy to see me, they want to know what I am doing and what I have been up to.

I used the example of personal interaction with other people because it is so easy to illustrate and explain, but how often do we lay awake at night scrutinizing every detail of the past day?  If it is once, it is too many!  I know, I do it and I am sure that most people out there do the same. I am coming to realize that if I have done my best it doesn’t make it error free, but it was my best effort.  I should dwell upon the mistakes that I have made just long enough to find a correction that I can do to make it right and MOVE ON.  Losing sleep over something is just not worth it!  We are only capable of doing our best, very rarely will that mean perfection.

I love sports, yet I cringe when I hear an athlete, salesperson or anyone else exclaim that I am going to give it 110%.  Balderdash!  You can only give it at most 100%.  I am not saying that we always give the full 100%, and if we were honest, most of us could give a lot more of our effort.  The maximum that we can give is 100%.  It is okay, that is all that we can give, there is almost always room for us to improve, but I believe that we are much better served if we strive for excellence and not perfection!  Perfection is rarely attained, and almost always is a fleeting thing.  Excellence is something that is much more sustainable than perfection!

So, don’t worry, be happy and don’t sweat the small stuff!

Some Thoughts on Active Rain….

A week ago Darcy and I attended Agent Reboot in Anaheim, California.  It was a great opportunity to learn how to better use the tools of technology to grow our business.  One of the main points that came out of it was that it was a good idea to post your blogs in several places, but you should have a main “hub” for those posts.  I have in the past attempted to do this but began thinking that it was a little too much work.

With the information from Agent Reboot, we have realized that the reason that we all blog is to increase our business by increasing our SEO.  We realized that we have not done a great job in building our web site SEO.  With that in mind, we have decided that we need to be doing a better job at using our web site as our blog hub.

I know that I have not been very active here on Active Rain for the past month or so, don’t get me wrong, I love Active Rain and will continue to add posts here.  I will admit that we are somewhat apprehensive of the recent purchase by Trulia.  I am not convinced that this is the best direction for either Market Leader or Active Rain.  I understand that is my opinion, and I am sorry if I offend, but I am choosing to be skeptical rather than toeing the company line.

I have respect and trust for the leadership of Active Rain.  The Conspiracy Theorist in me is just skeptical in nature.  I hope that I am wrong; I would hate to see this great resource changed in any way from what it has been!  I do enjoy the relationships and treasure them and the knowledge that I have gained from being a member here.

I do look forward to a long and continued relationship with our friends here at Active Rain!  I do hope that we continue to see in roll along unchanged in it’s form and purpose!

Live Happy…Have Big Dreams…

The next trait of happy people on the list that I got in the neighborhood newsletter is that happy people have big dreams.  We have been told that we need to have big dreams to help us find the success that we seek.  I believe that there is more to it than that, it isn’t just about dreaming to find success, I believe that big dreams leads us to be more optimistic.  When we dream big we see possibilities where those who don’t dream big may see nothing at all.

I have been in trainings where the trainer explaining this concept wants us to dream all the details of the big dream, how it looks, feels and smells.  This puts realism into the big dreams, it fuels the desires that the big dreams spark.  I believe Thoreau said something like it is okay to build castle in the sky if you put the foundation on the ground.  I know that I probably butchered that, and should have taken the time to look up the quote.  The point is, dream big, then work hard to make those dreams come true!

There has been very few accomplishments of note that weren’t preceded by a big dream.  The old saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day is true, but equally true is that it wasn’t built without a dream.  So be happy, have big dreams then make those dreams come true!  Even when they don’t come true, it’s okay, dream something else big and make it happen!
