Today is Mother’s Day, so please take the time to spend with her! If you can’t spend the time, then at least call her! When they are gone, it will be the things that you didn’t do that you remember first, I know. So I wanted to honor Mothers everywhere, I want to share a poem that my Uncle Von found for a tribute to my grandmother Cannon a number of years ago. It fit her perfectly, it also fits many, if not all Mothers out there!
She always leaned to watch for us,
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.
Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late,
Watching from Heaven’s window,
Leaning on Heaven’s gate.
Margaret Widdemer sure knew what she was talking about! Happy Mother’s Day!
