Today has turned into a rather slow day for events here in Cedar City. I have already used the recurring events of today for previous blogs. Today I am highlighting a chain of convenience stores, Maverik Country Stores. I am not doing this to slight any of the other gas stations here in Cedar City. We have several great gas station or convenience stores in Cedar City, even a local chain in the KB Express Stores.
Maverik Country Stores is however the one that I am most familiar with, I worked in their office, warehouse and Truck Shop for nearly a decade. I knew the company’s founder, Reuel Call on a first name basis. He was quite a guy, he was in his 80’s when I hired on with the company. He started the company on sheer desire and an uncanny ability to predict success in his business plan. He pioneered the self serve concept in the Intermountain West when he opened the first Maverik Country Store in Moab Utah in the 1960’s. I also know the current company President Mike Call, he is one of the sharpest people that I have ever met.
Whether it is the familiarity, or the prices, it is where Darcy and I buy our gas and morning sodas. I am sure that my previous experience and relationship with many of it’s key employees has much to do with our stopping in there almost daily. I still have many friends and many fond memories from my time working at Maverik!
Maverik Country Stores has 4 locations in Cedar City, another in Parowan, along with several more in Washington County.
