We wanted to continue with showcasing some of the great restaurants we enjoy right here in our own backyard. We are highlighting Arella Pizzeria, it is located in West Bountiful. Don’t let the pizzeria part of the title fool you, they have great pasta and salads as well. The cheesy garlic bread appetizer is exceptional! You can choose from one of the house specialities or make your own. My nephew loves the pink sauce pizzas! The pizza’s are cooked in a wood fired brick oven, which makes them even more delicious!
It is a casual, clean atmosphere that is friendly for families and at the same time intimate enough for a casual evening with that special someone, in my case, Darcy! For those unfamiliar with this wonderful restaurant, it is right off of Interstate 15 just North of Lowe’s in West Bountiful. The wait staff is also wonderful, they are very helpful with the menu items and very friendly. It is another restaurant that we would recommend!
Here is it’s website: http://www.arellapizzeria.com
Continuing in our effort to showcase what is available right here in our neighborhoods in South Davis County, we want to continue with this series of great local Restaurants. The restaurant I am highlighting in this post is Lorena’s Mexican Restaurant. It is located in Woods Cross. It is one of those restaurants that I have been enjoying for nearly twenty years. I have been eating there since it became Lorena’s after being La Frontera.
I will admit that Darcy and I are pretty particular when it comes to Mexican cuisine. I am also much more partial to Lorena’s than Darcy is. She favors much more of the California style Mexican food. I don’t pretend to be a food cuisine expert. I couldn’t tell what type of Mexican food Lorena’s serves, other than to say that I really like it. They have the best tortillas that I have found! I am partial to the Mexican Steak, but the rest of the food is also very good. It is also on the spicy side, if you don’t like things picante, Lorena’s may not be your cup of tea, so to speak.
Lorena’s is reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly. It is near the interchange with Interstate 15, so there is good freeway access.
Continuing with the idea of highlighting some of the great places to eat or things to do in South Davis County, I am going to write about one of the premiere Chinese Restaurants in the State, The Mandarin. It is truly a great dining experience!
I am not really sure if this restaurant is simply Mandarin or if is called The Mandarin, but for years it has been referred to as The Mandarin. The Mandarin is located in Bountiful. It is a little difficult to find in that there are no other restaurants near it. It offers, as the name implies, Chinese cuisine. This is a popular if somewhat upscale restaurant. I don’t remember the first time I ate there, it was several years ago. If anything, age has improved it!
The Mandarin is an award winning restaurant, in fact Travel and Leisure Magazine named it one of the 25 best Chinese restaurants in the United States. When we went a few weeks back it was a normal Thursday night and the place was packed! So call ahead for reservations, especially on the weekends! The food was fantastic! If you are a fan of fried rice, ask for the house rice. It could be a meal, it is that good!
Darcy and I were happy with the portion sizes as we had left overs for lunch the next day. This is a little upscale, but it does set its self apart from the other very good Chinese restaurants that we have. I have to brag a little, as a fan of Chinese Food, I am really spoiled here in the South Davis County area, we have several wonderful Chinese Restaurants.
The get an idea of the wonderful experience at The Madarin, here is their web site: http://mandarinutah.com/
In the past I have written about some of the fun places to eat or things to do in Southern Utah. I thought that I would start that up again here in Northern Utah, specifically in South Davis County. A couple of weeks ago Darcy and I had the opportunity to eat at a local restaurant chain, A Taste of India. I or rather we, try to limit these types of posts to small restaurants or local chains that aren’t familiar to everyone. One of the reasons for theses posts, is to show people who are looking to relocate to South Davis County, just what this wonderful community has to offer. To begin this post, I will admit I know next to nothing about Indian cuisine. I have heard of chicken curry, so I went with that. Darcy went with chicken coconut korma. I went with the medium spice, and boy was I glad that I didn’t go for the really spicy one! The food was unbelievable!
You have the option of mild, medium or spicy. I like spicy food, especially when it comes to things like Mexican food. I mentioned earlier that I am really glad that I only went with the medium spice! The chicken coconut korma was also delicious, the food is served family style, so Darcy and I were able to eat some of both dishes, the rice which came with the food was also very good and plentiful. The Naan was out of this world, if I would have known how good it was going in, I would have just filled up on that. I say that meaning no disrespect to the other dishes, they were excellent, the naan was just that good!
We were able to eat to our fill, and still had enough leftovers for both of us to eat lunch a day or so later. The atmosphere was great, and the wait staff was very helpful in offering suggestions. It is a place that I would gladly recommend if you are in the area.
To see what dishes they offer and all location sites, here is their web site: http://www.tasteofindiautah.com
Have a great time if you go!!
In the past 30 days there have been 10 homes sell in Woods Cross. This number is down from the previous 30 days total of 18 homes selling. The median price of homes selling in the past 30 days is also a little lower than it had been in the previous 30 days. The good news is that the average sold price is up just over $4000. The median days on market also stayed the same.
To put some actual numbers to these statements the lowest priced home to sell in the last 30 days was $136,000. The highest priced home to sell in the last 30 days was $420,000. The median priced home that sold in the past 30 days was $224,950. The average price of the homes that sold was $235,840. The median days on market was 41 days.
These are some interesting numbers, the do say one thing. If you’re looking to buy or sell Real Estate in Woods Cross, give Darcy or myself a call. We would love to earn your business!
It has been a while since I have done a market statistic post. Today, I am going to write one about Bountiful. The past 30 days have been very good ones in the Real Estate Market. There were 57 homes sell in the past 30 days. This number is up from the 27 that sold in the 30 days previous.
Another really nice statistic is that not only did more than twice as many homes sell, they sold for an average of nearly $9,700 more than they sold in the previous 30 days. The highest priced home to sell was on at $2,495,000. That is a nice sell! Not only were more home selling at higher average prices, the median days on market dropped from 20 days to 12 days!
Just to give out some more information, the lowest priced home to sell in the past 30 days was $179,000. The Median Price of homes that sold was $269,000 and the average price for homes that sold was $367,158. The statistic that was really surprising was how quickly these homes went under contract with a median of 12 days!
These are some nice numbers for the Real Estate Market in Bountiful! Things seem to be moving fairly quickly, so if you or someone you know is looking to buy or sell Real Estate in Bountiful, give Darcy or myself a call. We would love to earn your business!!
I know that is still a week away, but now is a good time to get ready for next week’s festivities in Bountiful. Handcart Days is a local celebration commemorating the Mormon Pioneer’s entry into the Salt Lake Valley. Some may remember that a large part of the Mormon immigrants didn’t have the money to outfit a wagon and a team to cross the Great Plains. Brigham Young devised a plan to have a wagon made to be pulled by the individuals who were crossing the plains.
The Design was pretty simple, a wagon type box with a handle protruding out of the front of the wagon, the person pushing the wagon would stand in front of the wagon and grasp the handle and push the wagon while walking across the Great Plains. This isn’t what this post is about, rather the fun activities in store!
It all begins with the 62nd Annual Handcart Parade. This begins July 23rd at 6 PM. The Parade will go on for almost 2 miles down Main Street. It begins at 1500 South Main and goes to 400 North, ending at the city park at 400 North. There will be floats, bands, horses, well it will have the standard parade events.
There will be fun and games at the city park at 400 North both Tuesday Night and Wednesday during the day. There will also be bus tours available for some 35 of the historic sites in the Bountiful area. For those who like to run, on Wednesday morning there will be a 1K, 5K and a half Marathon. If you wish to participate in these you will need to register for them.
What would any celebration like this be without fireworks? In my opinion, it would be pretty dull. The Fireworks will take place on Tuesday Night at dusk. They will be shot from the Mueller Park Junior High School at dusk which is about 9:45 PM. There will be something for everyone, so come out and have a great time!
This is a perfect day to show this happiness trait. Sunday is a great time to express gratitude for those blessings in your life. Whether you choose to attend Sunday Services or not, it is still a good day to take stock of what you have. Darcy and I find that our work week seem to go much better when we attend Church on Sunday, it is a nice change from the everyday routine that we find ourselves in. We also find that it is a great opportunity to think about someone other than ourselves. It is our opportunity to give thanks and recognize just how many blessings we have in our lives.
I believe that another great opportunity to do this is while you’re are planning out the coming week. If we stop and take an accounting of what we have in our lives; it may help us focus our planning efforts this week and allow us to go forward with a plan knowing what our goals and ambitions are. We have a hymn that is often sung in Church that says “Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.” It really helps us to put into perspective what is important and what direction we need to focus our efforts.
Go ahead, be thankful for the good things that you have in your life!
I came across some helpful hints in a neighborhood newsletter that I thought that I would share and expand into a blog series. There are 22 hints in all. I may end up combining some hints so there may or may not be 22 blog posts associated with these hints. The author of the list is un-credited in the newsletter, so I have no way of giving credit to whoever assembled this list.
The first trait of happy people is that they don’t hold grudges. I have to admit it, I have a hard time with this, even if I do consider myself to be a happy person. This is not an easy thing to get past, at least from my perspective. When I think about, I know that each day that I wander through this life I most likely will rub someone the wrong way. I do not set out to offend or annoy anyone, but I am sure that I am guilty of doing it anyway. If I were wise enough to stop and think about the person who I am offended by, and place myself in their shoes, I would bet that a large majority of these people offended me unintentionally.
I believe that in today’s World, too often we are caught up in ourselves. We tend to think that we’re entitled to something. The reality is what we’re entitled to, is to live our lives to the best of our abilities. The truly happy people realize that is what every other person in the World is also entitled to do as well. I often look through the obituaries in the newspaper. It is a sad fact, I am getting older and many of the neighbors that I grew up with are passing on. I was startled when I saw a former classmate’s obituary in the paper. It reminded me that life is too short, I need to get over myself and move one.
In order for me to truly move on, I need to let go of all past grudges and give those who have offended me the benefit of the doubt. That way, my feelings are no longer hurt and I no longer am feeling the anger or pain associated with that slight! At any rate, I do not believe that I should allow other people’s actions define my happiness!
Bountiful has a history as long as any other city in the State of Utah, well almost, it was the second city settled by Mormon Pioneers when they came to Utah after Salt Lake City. The city Bountiful, like all of the other cities in South Davis County has seen a lot of growth over the past several decades. Home have reached higher into the foothills and open spaces have filled in. The purpose of this market overview is to show what has happened with single family homes in Bountiful over the past year.
According to the Multiple Listing Service, there are currently 103 single family homes listed for sale in the Bountiful Real Estate Market. The lowest price home that is currently listed is $95,000. The highest priced home currently listed for sale is listed at $2,490,000. The average price for homes that are currently listed for sale is $445,287.
I was surprised at the average listed price for homes for sale in Bountiful. That seemed a little high, however I do acknowledge that there are some gorgeous homes in Bountiful! The median days on market for the homes that are not currently under contract and available is 36 days.
There are currently 54 homes who are showing to be under contract, which means that there is an accepted offer on these homes and they are just waiting for the contracts to be finalized.
In addition to those 54 homes that are waiting to have their contracts finalized there were 405 single family homes sell in the past year. The lowest price on a home that sold was $92,000. The highest price on a home that sold was $1,630,000. The average price of homes that sold in the past year was $271,222.
The median time that these homes were on the market prior to receiving an accepted contract was 37 days. That is still an amazing statistic! Just over a month from the day the home went on to the market until there was an accepted contract on that home. Those are numbers that are just amazing!
Bountiful is one of the most convenient places to live in the Salt Lake Valley, a fact which can be said about all of the wonderful cities located in South Davis County. You are minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. There are some amazing shops, parks, and other amenities all of which, make Bountiful one of the prime places to live in the entire State of Utah.
