May 1st has always been a special day in my life. Today would have been my Mother’s 81st Birthday. She passed away 8 years ago to ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She was like so many Mothers are, very instrumental in my life. I remember her coaching my Little League Baseball team when the assigned coach was too busy working to be able to do it.
She is the reason that we live here in Cedar City, she was born and raised in Parowan, just North of Cedar City. The work was in Northern Utah when she and my Dad were married, so although they both were raised in the red hills of Southern Utah, they moved to Woods Cross, which is just North of Salt Lake City. After my Dad died, my Mother couldn’t wait to move back to Parowan. She always said that she loved the feel of the Red Dirt under her feet, that meant that she was home.
After she retired and sold my childhood home, she returned to Parowan. Darcy and I were living in Las Vegas, and it just wasn’t working for us, we weren’t finding the jobs that we liked and that paid really well. We decided to look elsewhere, long story short, we ended up in Cedar City. It was here that we got into Real Estate, Darcy led the way, first as a secretary for a resort property manager, then at ERA. Eventually, she got her license. Finally, I saw the light and got my license.
So for my 1st day of the challenge, Mom’s Birthday, I say Happy Birthday, and thank you for everything that you provided for me!
For you Mom, Beautiful Southern Utah!
