The Summer Season of the Utah Shakespeare Festival ended over the Labor Day Weekend. This Season was unique, it was the 50th Anniversary Season. The Fall Season begins this week, so it is a smooth transition.
With it being the 50th Anniversary Season there were many extra events to go with the Anniversary Celebration. One of the really neat things that is still going on is that they got a 1623 first edition of Shakespeare’s plays in a book form. It is a rare book, which is on display at the Sherratt Library on the campus of Southern Utah University.

The Shakespeare Festival also had a look at the costumes from the productions. New playwrights had the opportunity to have their plays performed in matinee performances. The great thing about the Festival is that it not only performs Shakespeare’s plays, but also performs Broadway plays. This helps the Festival appeal to a much broader audience.
I will be honest, I really believe that the Festival could do a lot better job of marketing. We have a good Golf Course, and with Washington County so near, we have several really good golf courses to play. It does get really hot in the summer time down the hill in Washington County, but they do have some great golf courses.

We have Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park and Lake Powell are within an easy driving distance. Brian Head opens up some of their ski areas for mountain biking. There is hiking, camping, fishing and ATV riding in the area. We have a lot of wonderful recreational opportunities here in Cedar City.
Zion National Park
I would personally like to see the Utah Shakespeare team up with some or all of these other activities and Parks to create some destination packages for families. I really would like to see Cedar City build another great golf course and really market it in a vacation package.

This is probably why I sell Real Estate, I know how to market that, I am not a marketing expert. I am sure that the City and the Shakespeare Festival has professionals to think of ways to market their product. Anyway, I am off of my soap box. Is it easy to tell that I love the area? I do, we have a lot to offer. We invite everyone to come up and check it out! While you’re here, you may decide that this is a great place to live or have a 2nd home in. You will be right! Contact Darcy or myself, we really would love to have the opportunity to earn your business.
